University Information

Admission criteria to go to university has been changed for 2011. Admission to University does not guarantee acceptance into a particular course or degree programme.

It is strongly recommended that wherever possible students should be advised to take NZQA University Entrance approved subjects and achievement standards, as this will help them achieve a suitable rank score. It will also mean that they are better prepared for the challenge of university study.

For example:
To be automatically accepted into any degree at Victoria University you will need to have the following:
• achieve University Entrance
• achieve the Guaranteed Entry Score
• fulfil any other degree specific requirements, eg performance audition
• apply by 10 December 2010 for study in 2011.

You will be given a rank score based on your results and your qualification type. (Details on website).

Previous study is necessary for entry to some particular courses: for example some Maths, Physics, Chemistry and language courses. However, introductory courses are offered for most subjects at Victoria and most subjects can be studied from the start.

You will normally need to be at least 16 years of age by the application closing date.
If you achieve University Entrance but do not achieve the Guaranteed Entry Score, we will waitlist you and offer you a place in your programme if there are sufficient places. If you are accepted into a degree programme, you will be required to consult a course adviser to ensure that your programme and workload are appropriate.
