This year, 75 talented Marlborough Girls' students competed in the 'Mission On' Stage Challenge. From the beginning of February until the day of the performance (May 15th), artistic students expressed their love of dance by showing up to rehearsal several times a week. This year the girls stepped up by choosing to enter the ‘open' division which meant competing against big schools with big budgets.
This year the coordinators were Kayleigh Katu, Samantha French and Loren Coffey. The coordinaters were also assisted by Rachel Crampton, Liana Kerry and Megan Barnes who helped choreograph the performance piece titled "Toying With Reality." The performance included an eight minute section in which dance and drama contributed towards a child's nightmare. There were several types of dancing choreographed in the performance piece.
Through clever costuming, contemporary dancers were transformed into playful puppets. The jazz dancers were creepy jack in the boxes, hip hop dancers were scary Action Men and highland dancers were attentive toy soldiers. All the different dance styles were incorporated to ensure all the different types of talented dancers MGC has were given the opportunity to perform in front of a crowd of 2500 people.
This year MGC won more awards of excellence than any other school that participated and we were awarded with 3rd place. Kayleigh, Sam and Loren were extremely proud of all the girls and their hard work and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who was involved.
