As your Academic Prefects for 2011 it is our job to promote academic achievement in the school and encourage students to put in maximum effort towards their studies.
As well as promoting academic excellence around the school we run a peer tutoring programme which utilises the knowledge of older students to help those who may need a bit of extra help in a subject. This programme has proved its self extremely beneficial to both the students requiring tutoring and those who volunteer to tutor. Often a student will understand a concept better when it is explained again by another student who been where they are and achieved success. The act of tutoring another student also helps to consolidate knowledge as tutors often have to find alternative ways of explaining concepts to others which deepens their own understanding.
Along with our committee we also run subject weeks, these are a fun way for girls to experience what is available in the various departments of the school. Study guide recycling will also be continuing this year, students bring in old NCEA study guides which are kept in the library for everyone to use. These guides are often quite expensive and by making these available for others to study with can be a real help especially close to exam time. These programmes work together to help students maximise their potential and have an enjoyable learning experience. We look forward to working with students and seeing great results this year.
