Maori

Kia ora kautau katoa. My name is Marama Te Whiu and I am the Maori Prefect this year. It's going great so far! My main role in the school is to encourage the Maori students to do well in school and get involved in all the amazing opportunities our college has to offer. Also, my role is to be a good role model for the girls and be there for them always, voicing any problems/issues they have within the school. I also am taking part in Kapahaka this year. Also, I am taking a group of girls to the Manu Korero coming up in June, which will be a really awesome opportunity. There is also a Maori Tikanga committee of girls from college who have put their hands up to help me this year.

I have made it my personal priority to get to know every Maori student well this year. Hopefully, I will be able to leave behind something positive in their lives as well as take away something from them to carry forever. I hope to create a whanau-like atmosphere this year, where everyone can be open and honest about everything. I love challenges because they grow you as a person and make you get motivated. I hope this year is full of them. Bring it on!
