Marlborough Girls' College is offering a wonderful opportunity to other cultures to have a Summer School experience in a New Zealand School. We offer ESOL classes, interacting with New Zealand students, fun activities each week, learning about living with a New Zealand host family and what it is like to study and live in another country.

Tezukayama Gauken Summer School
Marlborough Girls' College are hosting Tezukayama Gauken Summer School for 12 weeks. This programme will run from 7 September to 28 November. The girls have come to Marlborough Girls' College to improve their English and learn more about the New Zealand culture. They will learn independence and cultural differences in living with a host family. The students are very excited about their programme and want to make the most of every opportunity that comes along.

Our Diary
Day One: On our first day we went to Picton to eat lunch. We could see a beach which is very beautiful. After that we met the mayor of Blenheim. Mariya and I told a short speech and then sang the school song for him with everyone.
Sports Class
We played netball and table tennis. We played netball far the first time and we enjoyed it very much. (Aiko Tsuji)
We played soccer. It was very exciting. (Ruriko Kato)
I played table tennis with my friend. Table tennis was difficult but I enjoyed it. Next I played netball. I couldn't understand the rules at first but little by little I started to enjoy it. The day's sports was really fun. (Miho Shioji)
General Class
We went to Mr Chapman's class. We played card games with kiwi students and we introduced ourselves to each other. I enjoyed his class very much. (Mana Hirosoko)

I took lessons in the general class. Mr Chapman was the teacher and he was very interesting. I think I want to take his class again. (Haki Nishimata)
I played cards in general class. We taught Japanese card to the kiwi students. We enjoyed playing cards and the teacher was humourous. (Kaori Aoyagi)
Community Service
We went to old peoples' home and sang many songs. I was very nervous. (Ai Ueda)

Maori Class

We participated in Maori class. We learned Maori behaviour and we made a poi. We saw Maori dance and challenged it but it was very difficult for us. We enjoyed it. (Mariya Ito)

I had Maori class for the first time. We made a Maori musical instrument called a poi. It was easy but enjoyable to make. (Shiori Takano)
Cherry Blossom
We went to a cherry farm. There are lots of cherry blossom. It was very beautiful. (Yurina Ishikawa)
We went to a cherry blossom farm and we ate our own lunch there. We sang our school's song. I rode on a motorbike. It was very fun. It was such a good place. It was a great memory for us. (Risa Kono)

Marae Visit
We went to Omaka Marae. We learned about Maori culture. We knew it was very important and precious. We played a Maori game. It was very interesting. (Minami Moriyama)
We visited a marae. There was a family of Maori there. They sang a Maori song for us and we sang our school song for them. We did "hongi" for the first time. A man told us about a lot of Maori cultures and we learned how to make a fish with leaves. After that we played a Maori game with them I had a lot of fun!!

Whites Bay
The White Bay was beautiful. I wanted to swim. I like this place. (Yurina Ishikawa)
We went to Whites Bay. It was a very beautiful place. The sea was very clear. We had lunch them. I felt cold but I enjoyed it there.

Nelson
We left school and went to Nelson by bus. We went to Wearable Arts Musuem. (Mariya Ito)

Kiwi Cooking
I made cookies for Kiwi Cooking Class. It was very delicious. (aho Shinoda)

I went to a jewellery shop to make a necklace. There were so many beautiful necklaces. We made lovely necklaces and we had a good time. (Aiko Tsuji)
