Athletics Day – Friday 21 February 2025

February 7, 2025

Our whole school athletics day is happening on Friday 21 February at Athletic Park. This is a great day of fun and competition for everybody and we look forward to welcoming whānau along to watch.

Programme of Events

The Programme of Events is here for your information.  This is also found on our school FaceBook page.

The day starts at 8.45 am and finishes at approximately 3.15 pm. Students are expected to remain at Athletic Park all day. The postponement day, if required, is Monday 24 February. We will let you know if there are any changes to the date via the MGC Facebook page and our school app.

MGC Athletics Day includes House events, both fun and seriously competitive, as well as highly competitive athletics events in track and field.

Students have signed up for events during whānau time this week. Please encourage your child to enter lots of events – every entry earns points for their House. Preliminary field events will take place in weeks 3 and 4 (10 – 19 February) at lunchtime on our school field. There are plenty of House events to enter on the day.

Students are encouraged to bring their own lunch, snacks and water for the day. There will not be any food for sale on the day at the venue.  Students will not be allowed out during the day to purchase food and there should be no need for deliveries of pre-ordered food from takeaway places.  Water is available at the park and students should bring a bottle with them to refill. Students may also want to bring a rug/picnic blanket to set up under the trees where they can enjoy the day when not competing.

Dress

Students are encouraged to dress in House colours and should also bring a sun hat and sunscreen.  Body paint is not to be used as it creates a huge mess, and is a problem for other users of Athletic Park.

Attendance

Athletics Day is a normal school day and the roll will be taken at the start and end of the day.  All students are expected to remain at the venue all day.

Buses and travel

School buses will still operate on Athletics Day. The drop-off and pick-up zones for all bus students will be on Eltham Road where the students will make their way down Stratford or Brewer Street to Athletic Park. Witherlea bus students will be dropped off at Athletic Park in the morning and will not come via MGC.  All other buses will go to MGC and MBC to drop off Bohally and MBC students and then continue on to Athletic Park in the morning. The same, in reverse, will happen in the afternoon.

Students with cars must park on the streets leading to the park.  Parking within the grounds is for staff and visitors only.  Please be courteous and mindful of the people who live in the area and their need to access their property.

Spectators

Whānau and coaches are more than welcome to attend to support our students. Come along and join in the fun, competition and support our amazing athletes.

Any questions regarding the day please don’t hesitate to contact our Sports Co-ordinator Jan Gallop (jan.gallop@mgc.school.nz) or your child’s Dean.

Many thanks again for your ongoing support.  Please don’t hesitate to be in touch if you have any celebrations, concerns or questions.
