Kia ora e te whānau,
It’s with real pride and excitement that I share some of the many positive things happening in our kura this term. We’ve seen a noticeable improvement in our learning environment this term – there’s a genuine sense of focus, positivity, and shared purpose in the air. When we all contribute to our kaupapa – where everyone is safe, everyone learns, and everyone thrives – our school becomes an even better place for every learner and every member of our community.
A special congratulations to our Year 9–11 students, who have made a great start to their new semester courses. It’s wonderful to see the strong connections being built between students and teachers, and the collaborative spirit in classrooms as learning unfolds in meaningful and engaging ways.
Our focus in whānau time right now is all about setting goals for the rest of the year and planning for the future. These opportunities for reflection and preparation are key to every student’s journey, and we strongly encourage all students and their whānau to come along to our Learning Hui on Wednesday 13 August. This is a valuable opportunity to talk about progress, aspirations, and next steps together.
For our senior students in Years 12 and 13, the term is in full swing with assignment deadlines, and derived grade examinations on the horizon. We know this can be a busy and challenging time, so we want to remind everyone: support is always available. Talk to your teachers, come along to Homework Club in the Library every Wednesday from 3:30–5:00pm and consider getting together with your friends to study – learning with others can be powerful.
Last week, we were incredibly fortunate to be inspired by a visit from Dame Sophie Pascoe, who shared powerful messages about dreaming big, working hard, surrounding yourself with supportive people, and maintaining balance in life. A huge ngā mihi nui to Westpac Bank for making this visit possible, and to our Sports Manutaki, Sophie Koleand Jessica Lovell, for leading a fantastic interview with Dame Sophie.
Lastly, we must celebrate the phenomenal success of this year’s Combined Colleges Production of “Shrek The Musical”. Opening night was totally joyful – the audience was buzzing with energy and admiration for the talent, dedication, and heart shown by our cast and crew. Congratulations to everyone involved – we are incredibly proud of you. A massive thank you to Jeannie Mark (Director), Robin Randall (Music Director), and Ngaire Searle (Producer) for the gift of your time, expertise, and support in helping our rangatahi shine.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our kura. Let’s keep working together to ensure this term is one where every student feels safe, supported, and inspired to thrive.
Ngā manaakitanga,
Mary-Jeanne Lynch
