Gifted and Talented

At Marlborough Girls’ College, the Gifted & Talented (GATe) programme identifies exceptional
students and gives hard-working, determined, and independently engaged students opportunities to extend their learning. We value and encourage students to develop and advance their learning capabilities vital for future success locally, nationally, or globally.

Marlborough Girls’ College’s aim is that Gifted & Talented students will:

  • Be driven by their passions and interests, and self-initiate new learning with appropriate guidance from teachers.

  • Feel passionate about a curriculum area and show student agency in their learning.

  • Be recognized and identified as exceptional from different domains or specific subject areas (cultural, social/leadership, visual/performing arts, physical education, technology, academic)

  • Have their needs met with individualised opportunities that are meaningful and relevant to their learning goals.

  • Show grit during failure and take risks to expand their abilities, learning, and capabilities.
  • Develop their talents, skills, and abilities with opportunities inside the classroom and through extra-curricular enrichment.

  • Expand their emotional/social abilities alongside intellectual needs.
  • Have their progress monitored and supported by staff.

These characteristics of giftedness align with Marlborough Girls’ College’s vision & values statement:

Our purpose is to develop young women who are independent learners with the skills and
attributes to make our community, our nation and our world a better place. The school
community works together to challenge and empower everyone to learn and achieve their
personal best.

The involvement of parents and carers is highly valued, and their input is sought in identifying
students with potential for excellence. If you would like to know more about the GATe at
