Graffiti Art – Whanaungatanga

April 17, 2025

MGC Holiday Project with a NZ graffiti artist – Sean Duffel.

We have just finished our Holiday Graffiti Mural Project, titled Whanaungatanga. Eight students designed and painted a huge mural on the brick wall by the MGC tennis courts. They worked with Sean Duffell – a NZ graffiti artist, and created a very impressive piece of art. Do have a look at it!

The project was initiated and managed by MGC’s Arts Coordinator – Ewa Zielinska.

Below are some words from the students about the project:

I found the project a lot of fun as I got to work with others that share the same interests as me. Rosa, Year 9

I originally joined this process so I could learn how to use spray paint as a medium, and I ended up connecting with awesome people to make something cool. Jayda, Year 12

I really enjoyed this mural project because it allowed me to work with different art styles. I also got to meet different people. I really recommend it. Arlo, Year 13

I loved collaborating with new people in this workshop as well as trying a new art medium that challenged me a lot. Mia, Year 13

I love trying new types of art to discover what I’m passionate about. Also, working with a professional is a valuable learning experience! Sean is cool and made sure we were all involved and engaged. Grace, Year 13

It was fun and exciting because we met new people with similar hobbies and interests. We used cool equipment like: paint guns, paint pens, and spray paint. The experience of creating the mural was fun, and we had creative freedom throughout the project. It’s really amazing how a group of people can do anything they set their minds to – NOT just a mural. Cat, Year 10 & Navitha, Year 9
