Aku ringa whatu whatu, i te aho, i te weru, aku ringa tānikoniko, i te iho tangata, whātuituia te tiho whakapapa, kia hono, kia hono, pūmau e, ki a tātou e hui nei, e mihi ana, he mihi whātuitui i a tātou ki a tātou, he mihi tānikoniko i a tātou, tēnā tātou katoa! Ko Emma toku ingoa I am extremely honoured and privileged to be your Manutaki Māori for 2021.
We are very excited about the upcoming year and are enthusiastic about the things we as a whānau, student body, and individuals can achieve by working together. Our leadership role encourages us to focus on the leadership and promotion of Māori culture me ona tikanga, biculturalism, and acknowledgement to Māori as Tangata Whenua.
It is our goal that we educate, share, and nourish our culture, language, and tikanga throughout the kura and create an environment where all students know who they are, where they come from, and are proud of who they are. We wish to be role models and show our peers that leadership has no restrictions. Through various events, kaupapa, and wānanga, we hope to work towards making a difference within the school and help MGC grow in strength, and acceptance of the many beautiful cultures we have within our kura.
We are proud to be Māori and it is important for us to ensure that all students have the opportunity to feel recognised and proud to be a part of the school whānau.
Lastly, we would like to finish with our whakataukī; mā te kahukura ka rere manu, take flight like the bird that is adorned with the colours of the rainbow. Be proud of who you are and where you come from, because you are adorned with the colours of the rainbow.
