Applications are open for Year 13 students to apply for the Russell & Phyllis Fairhall Scholarship and the Paul Hodgson Scholarship.

Students are asked to send their application to Mrs Bennett,deirdre.bennett@mgcschool.nz by Friday 21 November. Please refer to the details and criteria for each scholarship below.

Paul Hodgson Scholarship

Amount: $5000 total to be paid out in 3 yearly instalments
(1st year – $1000 and $2000 each subsequent year)

Three scholarships available annually.

Scholarship can be deferred for up to 3 years, at which point it is forfeited.

Scholarship Fund established specifically to assist local boys and girls who might not otherwise be able to afford a tertiary education.  Preference is given to those who may be financially restricted in regards to accessing tertiary education.

Considered based on:

  • Financial need of the applicant – all things being equal, greater weight is given to financial need than to academic ability

  • Likelihood of applicant achieving a tertiary qualification

Each application will need to include:  

  • CV

  • Candidate’s academic record (MGC will provide on your behalf)

  • Statement of intended study (subject area, reasons for studying)

  • Reasons cost is a barrier

  • Short-term and long-term goals

  • Names and addresses of two referees

Russell and Phyllis Fairhall Scholarship

Amount: $7500 to be paid out over three years ($1500 for first year, $3000 each subsequent year)

Scholarship Fund aimed at supporting those students who might not otherwise be able to afford a tertiary education and/or industry based courses relating to the rural sector.

Scholarship can be deferred for up to 3 years, at which point it is forfeited.

Aimed at courses relating to: 

  • Animal health

  • Agriculture

  • Horticulture

  • Viticulture

  • Rural Trades

  • Transport and aviation

Each application will need to include:

  • CV

  • Candidate’s academic record (MGC will provide on your behalf)

  • Statement of intended study (subject area, reasons for studying)

  • Short-term and long-term goals

  • Reasons cost is a barrier

  • Names and addresses of two referees
